On September 26, 2004, in Arlington, Washington, Ken Burdick put on the Top Dog 3, a celebration of diversity. There were four events:

  1. 80mph speed limit,
  2. Northwest Diesel Combat,
  3. Freestyle stunt, and
  4. A melee to pop the pinata.
The rules to all of these are too complex to record in our limited disk space. Suffice it to say that Dave Pellerin got to eat steak while everyone else was stuck with hot dogs.

Mel Lyne dukes it out

The freestyle stunt portion was excellent, with Mel Lyne flying two planes against each other in a combat match, complete with line tangles, recoveries, cuts, and a kill. Dave Pellerin (the Top Dog) flew a plane with his foot while juggling three clubs.

The melee involved 6 (simultaneous) flyers and a bee in two overlapping circles. While Mel managed to get himself DQ'd, despite the lack of any actual rules, Bob Smith bellcranked the pinata.

Hmmmm, perhaps an inauspicious combination?
