A box full of planes!
We need to assemble the tails.
I've glued the boom in place. Many people use a screw and kevlar thread to make the tail more easily replaceable.
The slot for the pushrod is constructed by applying reinforcing tape on both sides of the covering, melting two holes, and cutting a slit between them.
The covering obscures the leading edge, but the construction is quite clever. There are tapered spars, top and bottom, plus a spar embedded in the front of the leading edge. The entire leading edge is wrapped in a thin paper, giving a smooth surface and effectively creating a D-tube, which helps make the wing much more resistant to twisting. Compare with the construction shown below. Here we see a different plane more elaborate structure, with spars top and bottom connected by a shear web - sort of an I-beam. But the paper wrapping is missing and the wing has very little resistance to twist. Perhaps adding a wrapping will help. |
